Dr Singh founded the Mitochondria Research and Medicine Society, is the founding editor-in-chief of the journal Mitochondrion and is instrumental in promoting mitochondrial research and medicine around the world. Dr. Singh is the leader in the field of mitochondria research and medicine. He has more than 25 years of expertise. Dr. Singh is the author of more than 100 research publications and 3 books related to mitochondrial diseases, aging and cancer.

Dr. Singh obtained his Ph.D. in Australia and the postdoctoral studies at Harvard, USA. After completing his postdoctoral studies, he joined at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine as Assistant Professor of Oncology and Environmental Health. He then moved to Roswell Park Cancer Institute, the first cancer research, treatment and education center established in the United States as Associate Professor of Oncology. At Roswell he rose through the ranks to Professor and then to Distinguish Professor of Oncology. In 2011, he joined University of Alabama at Birmingham as Joy and Bill Harbert Endowed Chair and Professor of Genetics, Pathology and Environmental Health.

He has organized scientific meetings and workshops on mitochondria around the world including the Czech Republic, Russia, India and United States. He has also chaired or co-chaired several sessions in international scientific meetings. He served as an international advisor to the Asian Society for Mitochondria Research and Medicine, Korea and Mitochondrial Physiology Society, Austria. Dr. Singh serves on the editorial boards of several journals. He is also an expert reviewer of grants submitted to U.S. Department of State, United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation, National Research Council, Canada, Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, and National Institutes of Health. Dr Singh has been quoted in articles published in Nature, in New Scientist, on the web, in the newspapers, and has given interviews to media on topics related to mitochondria of public and scientific interests.
